Why Merter is the gravitational centre
Merter holds the largest concentration of wholesale clothing showrooms anywhere in the Mediterranean basin. Five to six thousand showrooms occupy six interconnected building complexes: Mehmet Akif, General Ali Riza Gurcan, Keresteciler, Tekstil Merkezi, Bağcılar Caddesi and the surrounding alleys.
Buyers from CIS, MENA, the Balkans, West Africa and increasingly Western Europe walk Merter every day looking for cherry-picked women s ready-to-wear, modest fashion, knitwear, kidswear and lingerie.
What to source where
Fatih Caddesi: women s ready-to-wear dresses, blouses, two-piece sets. General Ali Riza Gurcan: modest fashion and tesettur. Keresteciler: knitwear and tricot. Mehmet Akif: streetwear, oversized tees and hoodies. Tekstil Merkezi: lingerie, homewear and pyjama sets.
MOQ and price reality
Most Merter showrooms accept 30 to 80 piece minimums per style with cherry-picking across colours and sizes. FOB prices range from $4 for a basic tee to $40 for a heavily detailed evening dress. Cash, wire transfer and increasingly card payments are accepted; many showrooms have multi-currency tills.
Negotiation playbook
First visit: introduce yourself, take catalogues, ask about catalogue refresh cadence. Second visit: pick samples and discuss bulk pricing. Third visit: place a small first order to build trust. Most showrooms will not offer their best price on a first walk-through; the discount tier opens after two or three orders.
Logistics and onward shipping
Merter sits 18 minutes from Ataturk industrial freight zone and 35 minutes from Sabiha Gokcen on the Asian side. Most showrooms have established freight forwarder partnerships and can arrange door-to-door delivery to Europe, the Gulf and the CIS within 5 to 14 days. For US-bound orders, sea freight via Ambarli or Mersin port is standard.
