GOTS Certified Organic Clothing Manufacturers in Turkey
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) covers organic fiber content (95%+ for 'organic', 70%+ for 'made with organic'), social criteria, and full chain-of-custody from field to finished garment. Turkey is one of the world's top three GOTS-certified countries by license count, with strong presence in Bursa and Aegean cotton mills.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between GOTS and OEKO-TEX?
OEKO-TEX tests the finished article for residues. GOTS audits the entire supply chain - organic fiber farming, wet processing chemistry, worker conditions, and traceability. GOTS is stricter and applies to organic claims only.
Where does GOTS organic cotton in Turkey come from?
Turkey grows organic cotton in Aegean (Izmir, Aydin) and Southeast (Sanliurfa, Mardin) provinces. Roughly 18-25,000 hectares are certified organic depending on the season.
What labeling rules apply to GOTS goods?
GOTS label and certifier name must appear on hangtags or sewn-in labels. The factory's license number must be referenced on the invoice and certificate of compliance for every shipment.
Does GOTS cover dyes and prints?
Yes - only GOTS-approved chemistry is permitted. No heavy metals, no chlorine bleach, no GMO enzymes. This significantly limits the color palette in true organic production.
Can I claim 'organic' without GOTS?
Not in regulated markets (EU, USA, Japan). 'Organic' on textile labeling requires GOTS, OCS, or equivalent third-party certification. Self-claim risks customs seizure and chargebacks.
